Book 1 - Prince of Wolves - Chapter 3

Chapter 3

The next morning, we find Jacque up before anyone else.  She is doing what she can to keep a grip on things, trying to figure out why she is so nervous about meeting the new guy – other than that pesky voice in her head thing. Something inside is telling her that her life has changed in a big way because of this new guy. I am not sure I would call the foreshadowing as much as a big “well duh”, because her life will never be the same – but still it a clue to the first time reader that soon nothing will be as it was.

After her shower, Jacque finds her to friends waking up. During some fun banter between Jacque and Jen, we learn that Sally is the one that keeps the peace around there, and keeps them on track.

While Jen and Sally get dressed, Jacque sets out to find her mom and get their plan in motion. This is when we are introduced to Lilly Pierce, who is cooking up a true southern dinner to take over to the new guy, and providing a perfect in for our 3 curious ladies.

Lilly is suspicious of the offer to help, but she had planned on asking them for help anyway. However, Lilly cannot just go without questioning the girl’s motives a little, so she tries to find out if the sudden urge to meet the new guy is because of Trent. Trent is Jacque’s ex-boyfriend.  Apparently they went together for several years, and although everything seemed to be fine. About two months prior to the beginning of our story, he just broke it off one day without really explaining why. Jacque ends that line of thinking right there and we move on to getting ready to go. As prep goes underway, Jacque senses that her mother is worried – but she is unsure about what.  This is your first clue that Lilly “knows” something.

Finally everyone is ready and they head over to the Henrys’

My Thoughts:

By now, we have determined that a lot of internal dialog takes place.  This is one of my favorite things about this series, the dialog, both internal and between the characters. It isn’t just the girls who have this fabulous banter between each other; they have it with everyone they come around.

I find it a little frustrating that we are told that Lilly has “feelings” about things, and throughout the book she “knows” things – but we never really find out why that is. Maybe it is just really strong intuition? I’m hoping to find out in a different book.

When we first are introduced to Trent, I expected him to show up later in the book, possibly breaking up with her because he knew something she didn’t. As we learn about Lucas, I was thinking he might be a part of that pack and found out his Alpha had laid claim. After reading the book, I tend to lean more on he was a guy.

Favorite Points:

Lilly knows something. At this point I was thinking it was possible that she was a werewolf and just hadn't told Jacque. I also considered the fact that maybe she just felt that something was going to take place between this young man and her daughter and was concerned about how that would turn out. Definitely not expecting what was actually going on in her mind.

Favorite Lines:

This chapter actually has several lines that I really enjoyed, so I just picked a few

        …it was summer in south Texas, after all, which basically meant frying eggs-on-the-side-walk hot (having lived in many parts of Texas, I can personally relate to this statement)
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        “Thanks to you, Jen, I will probably introduce myself to him by calling him hottie.”
        “Well if you do, I will be sure to do you the honor of laughing my ass off.” Jen said graciously.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        Oh, well. Could be worse. She could be hearing voices…oh wait, she was. Well, crap.
